*Assistant Professor: Strategic Communication/Public Relations*
The School of Journalism and Mass Communication in the College of Liberal
Arts at the University of Minnesota invites nominations and applications
for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in strategic communication
(public relations) to begin fall semester 2014 (08/25/2014).
Appointment will be 100% time over the nine-month academic year
(late-August to late-May). Appointment will be made at the rank of
tenure-track assistant professor, consistent with collegiate and University
policy. Salary is competitive.
Successful candidates for this position will demonstrate a commitment to
sustaining a vigorous program of original research and publication with
potential for external funding; show promise of excellence in
graduate-level teaching (both M.A. and Ph.D.); demonstrate a capacity to
teach introductory and advanced undergraduate academic courses and
professionally-oriented courses such as strategic communication campaigns,
case studies, management, digital media design, and professional writing
and messaging for strategic communication. Meaningful professional
experience in public relations is required.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Mass Communication or a closely related
field by the date of appointment.
Candidates will be evaluated according to a) overall quality of their
academic preparation and scholarly work, b) relevance of their scholarly
research to the department's academic priorities and fields of inquiry, c)
evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and d) strength
of recommendations.

Successful candidates for this position will show outstanding promise of
sustaining a vigorous program of original research and publication with
potential for external funding; show promise of excellence in
graduate-level teaching and advising (both M.A. and Ph.D.); demonstrate the
capacity and commitment to teach undergraduate academic topics courses and
professionally-oriented journalism skills courses such as, the development,
roles and influences of the press and media institutions in relation to
legal, social, political, economic, and technological processes, events and
trends; the meaning of journalism in American life; global or comparative
studies of press performance. Meaningful professional journalism experience
and the capacity to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a
rapidly evolving new-media focused professional journalism curriculum are
preferred qualifications.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Journalism, Mass Communication or relevant
discipline by the date of appointment.
