Mon 9 Feb - Thurs 12 Feb 2015 @ Swinburne University, Hawthorn campus, Melbourne, Australia

We are now inviting applications for CCI’s 2015 Summer School.

Following the success of the two previous CCI Winter Schools in 2012 and 2013 (http://www.cciwinterschool.org), the 2015 Summer School will focus on digital methods for sociocultural research.

This CCI Summer School is designed for university researchers at all stages of their careers, from doctoral students, postdoctoral and mid-career academics to established scholars.

It is an intensive, four-day programme focussed on new quantitative, qualitative and data-driven digital methods and their research applications in creative industries, media and cultural studies, internet studies, and related fields in the humanities and social sciences.

Participants will work with leading researchers, engage in interactive workshop activities and receive direct feedback and individual mentoring on their own work. The Summer School will feature a Project Clinic where participants collaboratively workshop methodological aspects of their current project, receiving valuable advice from participants and mentors. Social activities will provide additional opportunities for participants to get to know each other and form collaborative relationships that will last for years to come. We particularly encourage applications from researchers working on projects or project ideas that incorporate, but are not limited to, some aspect of digital methods.

- The School will offer a range of introductory technical workshops in topics including
- Social media data analytics
- Software and app studies
- Analysing visual social media (Instagram)
- Geo-spatial mapping tools
- Data visualisation
- Agent-based modelling
- Web scraping
- Ethnography and data

The program will be grounded in contemporary problems in the analysis of social media, privacy, digital media production and consumption, and related ethical issues.
