Dear all-

The Digital Media and Learning hub at UC Irvine is organizing a series of
free webinars for PhD students and Early Career Resarchers covering
professional development for resarchers interested in media, technology,
design and learning.

The first webinar on Practical, Political and Professional Considerations
of Community-Based Research is tonight at 18:00 UK time (10am Pacific). It
would be great if you or others you know might like to join in, or catch
the event later (the webinars and etherpads stay up on the DML Commons
website, as below).

Best,
Alicia

"Practical, Political, and Professional Considerations of Community-Based
Research" <http://bit.ly/1COUOi2>

What are the opportunities and challenges of participatory and
community-based work? What value does academic research bring to community
partners? What can academic researchers learn from participatory research?
And how can junior scholars embarking on community-based research be better
equipped to build relationships, create positive impact, and leverage this
type of work for their professional progression? This first webinar
addresses these questions and other practical and ethical considerations,
with help from two seasoned practitioners who will share their stories and
insights, and respond to your questions.

Megan Bang and Phillip Bell will share their research related to developing
innovations in science education through community partnerships. Building
on the work that presents interesting intersections between research and
practice at the example of STEM innovation, we will dive into a discussion
related to managing the codesign process, ethical considerations for
participation, and managing the logistics of collaborative work in relation
to tools for planning participation and negotiating decision making in
design-based research.
