here at the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin we currently have an open position for Research Project Manager Internet Policy & Governance. The successful candidate will practically lead and manage the research of the governance group (from a social science perspective) at our Institute.

I can tell, it’s a top-ace job. Actually the position is a stand-in for my (part-time) parental leave. See full details below.

From 1 September 2015, in the context of parental leave cover, the team at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) is looking for an excellent

** Project manager for the Internet Policy & Governance Research Unit ** 
 
(TV-L 14 plus family allowance, depending on qualifications, 75%, limited to 12 months with an option to extend)

The Internet Policy & Governance Research Unit studies prominent fields of Internet regulation such as copyright, freedom of expression and infrastructure. The research programme contributes to debates on Internet regulation that have so far been shaped by legal scholarship and adds a social scientific approach, hence allowing us to understand rule-making on the Internet as a social process. The holder of the position will coordinate research in the field of Internet policy & governance for the duration of the leave. In addition to conceptual work, the position includes research management as well as the acquisition of third-party funding.

_What we expect from you:_

	• Coordination and organisation of the unit’s research activities, incl. mentoring doctoral candidates, leading the colloquium as well as budget and HR responsibility for the research unit.
	• Further development of the research programme in the field of Internet policy & governance, ideally related to infrastructure, algorithms and governance
	• Project management and role of academic editor at the open access journal Internet Policy Review
	• Development of a system for monitoring and evaluating funding lines and applications; writing of third-party funding applications in the field of Internet policy and governance
	• Development and maintenance of collaborations and partnerships, and the development of ideas for thematically appropriate conferences and workshops

_What you can offer:_

	• A high degree of self-reliance, an implementation focus and a creative drive
	• An interest in interdisciplinary research in the field of Internet policy & governance and the ability to identify and make use of connections to other disciplines
	• An understanding of the relevant scientific literature (e.g. Internet governance and regulation, copyright, infrastructure, STS) and political debates, as well as publications in refereed journals in the field of Internet policy & governance are desired
	• Experience in project/research management and in applying for third-party funding
	• Some initial experience in HR management, an ability to motivate and steer project teams and very good communication skills
	• An excellent PhD thesis in a social science subject (at least submitted)
	• Proficient in German, very good English skills are a basic requirement
