Description
The MIP Research Director serves under the direct supervision of the Carsey-Wolf Center's Executive Director. S/he provides strategic leadership and administrative management over the implementation of MIP research initiatives, resource development, and public programming. This includes aligning day-to-day operations and research activities with a strategic vision for long-term growth. Additionally, the research director also maintains an active research agenda of his or her own that contributes to one or more of the established research priorities within the MIP mission statement.
Responsibilities Intellectual--40%
Develop, implement, manage, and contribute to all facets of MIP research initiatives, academic and industry events, and educational materials
Develop, implement, and maintain an active research agenda that aligns with MIP research initiatives
Identify opportunities to integrate MIP research initiatives into undergraduate and graduate curriculum
Serve as managing editor of the MIP website, overseeing all aspects of content creation, acquisition, and editing; editorial staff deployment; and author contributions
Operational--40%
Provide leadership and supervision for all MIP staff, including MIP GSR, student workers, and external contractors
Serve as webmaster of the MIP website, overseeing all aspects of content management, production, distribution, and promotion
Manage MIP operational budget and allocation of funds
Manage day-to-day administration, correspondence, and scheduling matters
Collaborate with CWC staff, Development department officers, industry partners, and campus faculty and staff
Outreach--20%
Serve as the primary point person for MIP outreach efforts, attending industry events and academic conferences as an ambassador for the project and its activities
Establish, support, and maintain a marketing and promotional strategy for MIP research and related activities
The Research Director works with a team of faculty, graduate students, and industry researchers under the direction of the Carsey-Wolf Center Executive Director. Applicants should have expertise with issues related to traditional and new media industries, including familiarity with relevant technologies, industry trends, professional practices, policy concerns, global dynamics, and social issues. Applicants should also have excellent communication skills and be comfortable interacting with high-level media professionals, scholars, and the public. A Ph.D. in media studies, communication, or a related discipline is required, and candidates should be published in her/his field of expertise and currently engaged in a relevant program of scholarly research.
This is a 100% time position for 12 months, which is renewable based on funding and satisfactory performance reviews. Full health and disability benefits are included.
