About the blog

Since launching in March we have kept on top of breaking news and public debates in ON OUR MINDS (http://lse.us10.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=db4e90f897&e=784e60c12f) . We’ve been asking, Now that kids are diversifying away from Facebook, how can parents keep up? (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=be14a3114a&e=784e60c12f) and observing how groups of young people come to sometimes surprising conclusions when debating digital rights and a fair internet (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=9b9d2ebee0&e=784e60c12f) . We’ve considered whether ‘smart Barbies’ are manipulating children’s emotions (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=e3422b6ce6&e=784e60c12f) and summarised some of the unique benefits (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=4385c86529&e=784e60c12f) andrisks (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=b5a86435b8&e=784e60c12f) that digital media pose for children and young people in foster care.

In FROM OUR NOTES (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=3c019b9443&e=784e60c12f) we draw on our current research (http://lse.us10.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=9c3f0e5ad0&e=784e60c12f) with children, families and digital media in the UK and US. We’ve provided an overview and ‘top tips’ from the research on how parents manage kids’ media use (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=8a6fa417a9&e=784e60c12f) and looked at how playing computer games might bring long-term benefits when kids move from digital hobbies to jobs (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=614920cdf9&e=784e60c12f) . In the coming months we’ll be blogging more from our research, after suggesting tips for practical and ethical ‘good practice’
(http://lse.us10.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=6f5662e936&e=784e60c12f) for researchers trying to gain access to places where children and young people hang out and learn.

Finally, in AROUND THE WORLD (http://lse.us10.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=ba75976657&e=784e60c12f) we invite guest bloggers to reflect on digital technology for today’s global children. In a Chinese village (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=b8d264f44c&e=784e60c12f) parents grapple with the pull of social media while children prepare for the exams that might determine their future, while in Japan parents are reticent to talk to their children about the permanence of their ‘digital tattoo.’ (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=b06334725d&e=784e60c12f) In Europe (http://lse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=af4a1dbad8&e=784e60c12f) and in the US (http://lse.us10.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=6ed42cda03012774a98ca3add&id=7adc103b66&e=784e60c12f) contributors have
