[Air-L] List of banned Instagram hashtag searches?

Hi Natalie, Hanan, Ben, Sharif & a couple more folks off-List,

Thanks so much for your comments and suggestions.

There appears to be a core list of permanently banned hashtag searches
(which now includes, as you note Ben, the single eggplant/aubergine - the
first emoji on the list!), while there are also temporary bans for searches
that have been flagged at a particular time as having a high percentage of
material that violates Instagram's community guidelines (porn, nudity, self
harm, certain types of violence, etc). I can't for the life of me figure
out how Instagram determines how long these bans should last, but at least
that raises an interesting technical question to pursue amongst all the
issues of power, representation and platform politics!

Sharif - I'll email Gemma Cobb shortly, thanks for the suggestion.

If anyone else has any insight into Instagram's hashtag search banning, I'm
going to be looking into this for a while, I think so feel free to add more
here or contact me off-list if you prefer.

Thanks groupmind!

Cheers,
Tama
