School of Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication

The School of Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication (WRTC; www.jmu.edu/wrtc<http://www.jmu.edu/wrtc>), a stand-alone department offering interdisciplinary and innovative degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor to begin August 2016. We seek a colleague who specializes in digital media theory and practice, with a PhD (in hand by August 2016) in Technical and Professional Communication, Rhetoric and Composition or a related field. Additional areas of interest may include, but are not limited to: designing across multiple media devices, content strategy, transmedia narratives, gaming culture, digital storytelling, sustainable data preservation, social media strategies and web analytics.

We seek candidates who have expertise in a range of industry-standard applications and languages, as well as the ability to stay abreast of developments in these fast-changing areas. WRTC prizes collaboration and interdisciplinary inquiry, and we welcome applications from those with the desire to work with specialists across the disciplines. Preferred candidates will provide evidence of excellent teaching, a solid record of scholarly, creative and/or professional productivity, as well as a plan for ongoing research. The successful candidate will teach first-year writing and courses in the BA/BS and MA/MS degree programs. Teaching load is 3-3, with reasonable service expectations.

WRTC comprises 50 faculty (approximately 30 full-time and 20 part-time) and approximately 400 majors, minors, and graduate students. We work to foster an educational environment in which students and faculty facilitate constructive dialogue in the classroom and community to inspire responsible citizenship in a diverse world.

James Madison University (www.jmu.edu<http://www.jmu.edu/>), situated in Virginia’s beautiful Shenandoah Valley (www.harrisonburgva.gov<http://www.harrisonburgva.gov/>), is a growing university of approximately 20,000 students.
