The College of Communication at DePaul is seeking a tenure-track Assistant
Professor in the area of Digital Communication and Media Arts to begin Fall
2017. Candidates should have an interdisciplinary focus that can encompass
multiple topics in digital communication and technology. Teaching and
research expertise should complement one or more of our existing emphases
in the Digital Communication and Media Arts program.
The ideal candidate will be prepared to teach both theory and hands-on
skills in a range of graduate and advanced undergraduate courses in digital
communication as it pertains to a variety of media contexts, including
advertising, journalism, public relations, cultural studies, critical
studies, ethics, identity and representation, and the construction of
culture. Candidates should have an active research agenda in specific areas
of digital communication, including (but not limited to) computer-mediated
communication, multimedia, digital storytelling, open source, data mining
and data visualization, digital communication laws and ethics, and/or
critical studies of digital technology.
Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of specialization as well
as courses contributing to common core in Digital Communication and Media
Arts. Nominal teaching load is two courses per academic quarter (Autumn,
Winter, Spring). Engage in a program of scholarship resulting in
peer-reviewed publication or creative activity. Participate in service to
program, college, and university.
Minimum Qualifications:
A doctorate in digital communication or a closely related field is required
at time of application or official notification of completion of the
doctoral degree by July 1, 2017; demonstrated excellence in teaching at the
college level; an active record of scholarship or creative activity related
to the candidate’s area of specialty.
