Visiting Professor of Communication & Media Studies
School of Journalism and Communication
Carleton University

Application Deadline: December 15, 2016

The School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University
invites applications from distinguished scholars for the position of
Visiting Professor of Communication and Media Studies (2017-18). This
position is open to professors who wish to spend time in a vibrant,
interdisciplinary environment in order to carry out their research and
teach on topics and issues that complement those of our faculty and
graduate students in the Communication and Media Studies program. The
School of Journalism and Communication provides office space and
administrative support, a robust research setting with high quality
Master’s and PhD students, contact with other professors in the
School, at Carleton, and in neighbouring universities, and a stipend
for a single term (applicants wishing to spend more than one term are
welcome to apply and should indicate as much in their cover letter).

The Visiting Professor position is ideal for established academics on
sabbatical, or those with research leave funding or a portable
research fellowship. Applicants should have a record of
internationally recognized published scholarship and a strong record
of graduate teaching and mentorship. Preference will be given to
tenured professors who already hold faculty positions at other
institutions in Canada or internationally. Visiting professors are
expected to actively contribute to the School’s intellectual culture,
and will be asked to lead a graduate seminar on a topic of their
choosing. Visiting Professors are also expected to deliver a public
research presentation before the end of their appointment.
