ABOUT THE MCGANNON CENTER
The McGannon Communication Research Center was founded in 1986 and is
dedicated to furthering understanding of the ethical and social justice
dimensions of media and communication technologies, particularly how such
technologies affect the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and
privileges within society. The Center engages in, sponsors, and promotes
interdisciplinary academic research that provides an empirical foundation
for informed technological development, policy-making, and debate. McGannon
serves as a hub at Fordham University for faculty, scholars, students, and
visitors interested in the social, legal, political, economic, and cultural
dimensions of communication technologies and emerging media. The center’s
Director is Dr. Alice Marwick, who conducts research into the social,
cultural, and policy implications of social media.
