I taught a social media methods course to masters and doctoral students this term, and I used these books:

Ackland, Robert. (2013). Web social science: Concepts, data, and tools for social scientists in the digital age. Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage.
Hine, Christine (Ed.). (2005). Virtual methods: Issues in social research on the internet. Bloomsbury Academic.
Rogers, Richard. (2013). Digital Methods. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press.
Markham, Annette N. & Nancy Baym. (Eds.). (2009). Internet inquiry: Conversations about method. Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage.
McKee, Heidi A. & James E. Porter (Eds.). (2009). The ethics of internet research: A rhetorical, case-based process. Peter Lang.
Weller, Katrin, Axel Bruns, Jean Burgess, Merja Mahrt & Cornelius Puschmann (Eds.). (2014). Twitter and society. Peter Lang.

These provide a wide range of methods for internet research.
