Assistant Professor, New College, Arizona State University (Two positions)

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) of ASU’s New
College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (New College) invites
applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professors in emerging
media and related subjects. Located at ASU’s west campus in northwest
Phoenix, the college offers a rich, innovative interdisciplinary
environment within a university that has twice been selected as the
most innovative in the United States. Situated within a school that
includes faculties in communication, psychology, and the social
sciences, we seek scholars who will pursue programs of inquiry with
national and international influence. In addition, our new colleagues
will be deeply committed to student learning and highly engaged in
shaping the future of our university and the discipline. The new
faculty will contribute to undergraduate programs in Communication as
well as two MA programs, one focused on Communication and Advocacy and
the other on Social Technologies.

Required qualifications: Ph.D. in Communication or related discipline
by time of appointment; evidence of ongoing research program on the
relational, societal, political, organizational, economic, or cultural
implications of emerging media; level of publication consistent with
experience; evidence of successful college teaching; evidence of
intellectual engagement across disciplines.

Desired qualifications: A record of publication on the social
implications of emerging media; evidence of one or more of the
following: expertise in the uses and/or impact of emerging media,
including but not limited to areas such as politics, health,
entertainment, sports, diversity, or communication campaigns;
expertise in data science or social network analysis; interest in
seeking external funds to support research or instructional activity.

Essential Job Functions: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in
emerging media and related subjects. Develop new courses as needed by
the academic unit. Conduct and publish original research in one or
more of these areas of specialty. Complete faculty service activities,
such as serving on departmental committees or directing graduate
thesis committees.
