The Department of Information Systems (which is changing its name to the
Department of Informatics) at New Jersey Institute of Technology seeks
outstanding candidates for two full time faculty positions at the level of
Assistant or Associate Professor. Successful candidates must have a PhD in
a computing-related field by Summer 2017.
*Information Systems area*: Preferences will be given to those who
specialize in health informatics / smart health, or cyber-human systems /
social computing. Outstanding candidates in other IS areas will also be
considered. Teaching qualifications should include introductory courses in
Web programming, Databases, Data Analytics, Systems Analysis and Design,
and advanced courses in an area of expertise.
*Information Technology (IT) area*: Preference will be given to candidates
in security, networking, multimedia, game development, or VR, but
outstanding candidates in other Information Technology areas will also be
considered. Some industrial experience in an area of IT is a plus,
and teaching
interests should include general courses in IT as well as advanced
specialization courses.
Applicants should have an excellent academic record and exceptional
potential for world-class research and attracting grant funding. Candidates
with exceptional records will be considered at the associate professor
level.
The IS Department is part of the Ying Wu College of Computing. As such,
tenure and teaching expectations are aligned with those of the broader
computing community, with an emphasis on grant funding and publishing in
top computing conferences and journals. The IS Department has degree
programs ranging from Bachelor’s, Master’s, to Ph.D., and it specializes in
human-centered computing and data intensive research. Interdisciplinary
work is strongly encouraged across the university and with other partners.
NJIT is located 30 minutes from Silicon Alley and NYC by train. The area
has a high concentration of industry and businesses, with many
opportunities for research collaboration and consulting. The area offers a
variety of living environments, from lively urban to quiet suburbs to the
Jersey shore, with excellent school districts.
