The Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invites applications for a Faculty Fellow or Lecturer focused on Information Technology, Design, and Society. Rensselaer’s STS Department offers a Ph.D. and three undergraduate B.S. degrees: Science, Technology, and Society; Design, Innovation, and Society; and Sustainability Studies. The candidate must be prepared to teach large introductory lecture courses focused on the social impacts of information technology, as well as advanced seminar courses on the critical analysis and design of digital systems. Courses to be taught include IT and Society, Digital Design in History, and Open Source Art, Music, and Culture.

The successful candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent in anthropology, sociology, history, science and technology studies, new media studies, or a related field. Evidence of effective teaching is required. As a Lecturer, candidates should also have have a record of professional practice relevant to the position and a demonstrated commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level. Ability to interact effectively with faculty in a broadly inclusive department is important, as is ability to effectively engage students and faculty from other disciplines, particularly in computer science and information technology.
