Hi Julia: At my institution, UC Berkeley, you can apply to a Ph.D. program
in any humanities discipline like English, Comp Lit, Rhetoric, or a
specific foreign language/lit dept (German, French, East Asian, etc.), and
once you are admitted and begin your doctoral studies at Berkeley, you can
apply for a Designated Emphasis in New Media at the Berkeley Center for New
Media (http://bcnm.berkeley.edu/). We have many students in arts and
humanities graduate programs doing the DE in New Media (at Berkeley, a DE
is like a "minor" for grad students).
