Hello,

interesting thread :)

I would like to suggest two publications from my PhD research based on
qualitative interviews with (more than 50) teenagers from different
socio-economic background and attending different type of schools (academic
oriented high schools and vocational schools). The first article focus on
Facebook use. The second is on Internet use in general but taking into
consideration the role of parents.

Micheli, Marina. 2016. “Social Networking Sites and Low-Income Teenagers:
Between Opportunity and Inequality.” *Information, Communication & Society*
19 (5): 565–81.

Micheli, Marina. 2015. “What Is New in the Digital Divide? Understanding
Internet Use by Teenagers from Different Social Backgrounds.” In *Communication
and Information Technologies Annual*, 10:55–87. Studies in Media and
Communications 10. Emerald Group Publishing Limited.
http://www.emeraldinsight.com/doi/full/10.1108/S2050-206020150000010003.

You could also check out the report of the Net Children Go Mobile project
that includes both qualitative and quantitative data (paragraph 4 is on
"communication practices" while 9 is on "mobile internet in schools"):

opportunities. Second Edition. Milano: Educatt.

Other qualitative studies with teenagers about social media use, besides
those already mentioned, are:

Berriman, Liam, and Rachel Thomson. 2014. “Spectacles of Intimacy? Mapping
the Moral Landscape of Teenage Social Media.” *Journal of Youth Studies* 18
(5): 583–97. doi:10.1080/13676261.2014.992323.

Marwick, Alice, and Danah Boyd. 2014. “‘It’s Just Drama’: Teen Perspectives
on Conflict and Aggression in a Networked Era.” Journal of Youth Studies,
no. May 2014: 1–18. doi:10.1080/13676261.2014.901493.
