[Air-L] Data Ethics Decision Aid

the issue of ethics and data has addressed a few times on this list. On that note I would like to share our recently published Data Ethics Decision Aid (DEDA).


Commissioned by the City of Utrecht (NL) and developed in close cooperation with their data analysts and project managers, the Utrecht Data School developed a process and tools to trace ethical issues in (municipal) data projects. DEDA's lead developer Aline Franzke, who holds an MA in Applied Ethics, also serves on AoIR's ethics committee.


DEDA is mainly a large table poster (A0) which is used to structurally inquire the process of a data project and its various implications for values, social impact, ownership, accountability etc.

DEDA also provides a manual and an online questionnaire to guide and document ethical decision making.
