 The NYU Wireless <http://wireless.engineering.nyu.edu/> mmW research
center pioneered much of the essential tech of 5G. As the field grows
the Research
Coordination Network <http://mmwrcn.ece.wisc.edu/> is a multistakeholder
project to connect NYU and its academic brethren with industry and
government agencies, plus the wider community, mainly through a series of
workshops of which this was the 4th.

Last year the NSF also launched <https://isoc-ny.org/p2/9161> the PAWR
effort to foster collaborative testbeds which led to the funding of the Cloud
Enhanced Open Software Defined Mobile Wireless Testbed for City-Scale

which aims to deploy a city-scale advanced wireless platform *in NYC* by

). The testbed breakout session at this workshop provides an opportunity to
learn more about this and similar projects.

What should not be missed are the two keynotes John Cioffi (11am) and Ted
Rappaport (2:30pm), however, be warned, both are highly technical. John

as “the father of DSL” and his talk might be called 'DSL's not Dead!' as he
talks about achieving gigabit speeds over multiple twisted pairs. NYU
Wireless founder Ted Rappaport starts by dispellings some myths,  talks
about the latest in 5G tech, and finishes up with a critique of FCC 5G
policy.
