Digital Diasporas: Interdisciplinary Perspectives

6/7 June 2019

Venue:  Fyvie Hall (University of Westminster), 309 Regent Street, London W1B 2HW



Funded as part of the translingual strand of the AHRC Open World Research Initiative ‘Cross-Language Dynamics: Reshaping Community’ project, and led by the Institute of Modern Languages Research and Digital Humanities at the School of Advanced Study (University of London).



This conference aims to inspire greater dialogue across disciplinary boundaries in order to explore the relationship between digital technologies and diasporic communities, with particular attention to linguistic and cultural diversity.



The programme includes a public lecture by Roopika Risam (Salem State University) 'Mobilizing New Digital Worlds: The Stakes of Postcolonial Digital Humanities’, in collaboration with Digital Humanities and the Language Acts & Worldmaking project at King’s College London.



Keynotes:

Mirca Madianou (Goldsmiths) 'Technocolonialism: Digital humanitarianism as extraction' & Jannis Androutsopoulos (Universität Hamburg/Multiling, University of Oslo) 'Mediational repertoires and diasporic connectivity: from Senegal to Oslo and back again'.
