The Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN) Conference on
Undergraduate Informatics Education welcomes abstracts for posters,
presentations, and panels. This conference, which is sponsored by the
Public Interest Technology University Network, will explore how to prepare
undergraduate students for careers in the public and non-profit sectors,
serving the public interest, particularly in support of social justice.
This 1.5-day conference will be held on the beautiful campus of The
University of Texas at Austin on March 3 and 4 (peak wildflower season, and
definitely no snow!). Please come join us in sunny and lively Austin!

The conference will serve as a meeting place for educators across
disciplines, uniting around a common goal and vision. The conference will
help to define what undergraduate education for public interest technology
looks like. The conference will also showcase how individuals affiliated
with member institutions can best leverage their involvement in PIT-UN, as
well as showcase the benefits of PIT-UN membership to individuals at
institutions that are not yet one of the participating PIT-UN institutions.
To learn more about best practices and pedagogies for undergraduate
informatics education, to learn more about public interest technology, and
to learn more about PIT-UN, we encourage you to attend this first meeting
in a series of events sponsored by PIT-UN and what we hope will become a
recurring conference.

The conference will involve plenary and breakout sessions, including
presentations, panels, and posters. We are open to any aspect of
undergraduate education research or pedagogy that relates to the general
theme of informatics that serves the public interest, broadly construed. We
encourage you to please submit your abstract of 250-500 words here

Through the generous support of the Public Interest Technology University
Network
<https://www.newamerica.org/public-interest-technology/university-network/>,
we are able to offer 20 competitively selected PIT-UN travel grants to
support travel to and participation in the conference. The approximate
value of these travel grants is $1,000, including two nights at the AT&T
Hotel and Conference Center plus a $500 stipend to partially cover airfare
and local transportation (meals will be provided to everyone during the
conference). This funding is prioritized for junior scholars (e.g.,
assistant professors, postdocs, and doctoral students/candidates),
individuals from underrepresented groups, individuals affiliated with
minority-serving institutions (e.g., HBCUs, HSIs, TCUs), individuals with
compelling financial need, and/or other compelling reasons for needing
support for attending the conference. Funding requests can be submitted here
