I have the pleasure of chairing the Tom E Patterson award committee this year. The award is given by APSA’s Political Communication section for the best PhD dissertation in Political Communication awarded in the previous calendar year (so any dissertation that was passed in 2018 would be eligible). Nominations close on Friday, so please do nominate your former students or pass along to anyone who you think should be considered for this award.

Thomas E. Patterson Best Dissertation Award

The Thomas E. Patterson Best Dissertation Award recognizes the best dissertation completed in the field of political communication in the previous year.
Nomination Instructions: Nominations for the award should be made by the adviser of the dissertation or by a faculty member from the department in which the dissertation was completed. Nomination letters should explain the central argument advanced by the dissertation and specify its original contribution to the field. Letters should be no more than one page in length. Eligible dissertations must have been defended successfully in the calendar year preceding the award (e.g., candidates whose degrees were awarded in 2018 will be eligible for the 2019 dissertation award). Digital copies of the dissertation, abstract of the dissertation (500 words or less), and the nominee's curriculum vita (with current address) should be sent to the chair of the dissertation award committee.
