Why We Post book series passes three quarters of a million downloads
The Why We Post book series (UCL Press) has passed three quarters of a million downloads (766,131). The series is now developing a series of translations. How the World Changed Social Media [https://www.uclpress.co.uk/products/106697] is available in Portuguese, Hindi and Tamil with UCL Press and is currently being translated into Chinese and Spanish. The Italian version is separately published with Ledizioni. The individual monographs about Social Media in Brazil, Chile, India, and China are also being made available in their relevant languages over the next few months.
Following the completion of the Why We Post project, a new project has been developed which shifts the focus from social media to understanding the use and consequences of smartphones around the world. The Anthropology of Smartphones and Smart Ageing (ASSA) [https://www.ucl.ac.uk/anthropology/assa/] involves 10 anthropologists who have just completed sixteen months’ of fieldwork in Al-Quds, Brazil, Cameroon, Italy, Chile, China, Ireland, Japan and Uganda. A new series of monographs are being written about the use of smartphones by older people, alongside a more general comparative book about the global smartphone and an edited collection about our work on mHealth.
