ONE-DAY SYMPOSIUM: New Reflections on Fashioning Identities:
Lifestyle, Emotions and Celebrity Culture

Date: Friday 14 June 2019

Venue: Elm Grove Conference Center, University of Roehampton, London

New Reflections on Fashioning Identities brings together established,
early career and emerging scholars and practitioners working in
fashion, promotional culture, celebrity studies and lifestyle media to
explore current debates on makeover, fashion and lifestyle practices
that enable us to bridge the outer and inner word as means of
(re)exploring, (re)discovering, and reflecting on the body, self,
sexuality and identity.

The day will include two keynote speakers, Dr Shaun Cole (Associate
Professor of Fashion at Winchester School of Art, University of
Southampton) and Gok Wan (Multi-award-winning UK presenter, fashion
expert and on-screen consultant), and a series of panels covering
topics on fashioning celebrity bodies and identity; sexualisation and
feminism; retro femininity; body as artwork ; sustainable fashion;
lifestyle bloggers and journalism; social media and masculinity; media
mindfulness; aging bodies; reality television and gender
performativity; body confidence and wellness on Instagram,
self-transformation and emotions (see programme attached).

The symposium will be held at Elm Grove Conference Center at the
University of Roehampton at London on Friday the 14th of June 2019.
