Hi AoIR friends,
I'm excited to announce that my new book, An Internet for the People is out now from Princeton University Press<https://press.princeton.edu/ideas/jessa-lingel-on-an-internet-for-the-people>. Online since 1996 and with more monthly page visits than the New York Times or ESPN, craigslist has been incredibly successful without giving up on key tenets of Web 1.0 politics (and aesthetics), like anonymity and transparent business models. Using interviews with insiders and users, the book uses craigslist as a lens for thinking about how digital culture has (and hasn't) changed in the last 25 years. The first chapter is available at the Social Media Collective blog<https://socialmediacollective.org/2020/02/04/an-internet-for-the-people-first-chapter-preview/>.
Thanks,
Jessa
