[Air-L] Opportunities from SSRC's Just Tech Program

I am writing to share two opportunities that may be of interest to members of the AoIR listserv.



As you may have seen, the Social Science Research Council recently launched the Just Tech program<https://www.ssrc.org/programs/view/just-tech/> to support scholars doing critical, public-facing research about technological development, power, and inequality, especially as these issues intersect with questions of identity and social justice.



Just Tech now has an open job call for a Program Officer. The program officer will play a central role in the start-up phase of this effort by assisting in administering planning activities for the program, including workshopping and refining program themes and consulting on the details of a proposed new fellowship. Candidates must have a PhD. This is a one-year position, but an excellent opportunity for a scholar seeking to begin an alt-ac career.

Just Tech also has an open competition for rapid-response research grants. We seek proposals that address the risks, opportunities, and challenges posed by public health surveillance that engages forms of technology and stems from the Covid-19 pandemic. We specifically encourage proposals that interrogate the role the public and private sectors may play in mitigating or exacerbating the health crisis, the effects of which are already unevenly distributed.
