[Air-L] SSU Journalism and Mass Communications Seeks New Chair

Savannah State University invites applications for a tenure-track teaching and administrative appointment as Associate Professor/Professor and Chair of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications. The Chair will have administrative responsibility for the Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications with concentrations in Journalism, Multimedia and Digital Communications, and Public Relations and Strategic Communications. The Department of Journalism and Mass Communications currently has an enrollment of 300 students. The Chair will also be required to teach two courses per semester and may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description.

Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in mass communications or closely related field, successful experience in academic administration, and demonstrated evidence of a minimum of five years of effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels in Journalism or Mass Communications program required. Additionally, the candidate should present an established research and practice record in Journalism or Mass Communications and show a history of service at the university and community levels. Demonstrated knowledge of and show evidence of experience with Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC) structures, self-study writing and procedures, reaffirmation standards and program assessment. Must show experience in developing and supporting distance education, grant acquisition, securing of external funding, and resource development preferred. The candidate must demonstrate managerial skills, be able to multitask and use technology to perform office tasks and in the classroom. Background and/or credit check may be required.
