Hi Seth,

If you are interested in more historical/technical/critical detail on the underlying deepfakes technology/technique of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), this paper (presented in extended abstract form at ACM FAccT 2020 earlier this year) may be helpful:

Subject: [Air-L] Texts on Deep Fakes, Propaganda

Hi all-

I am teaching an undergraduate course on propaganda this fall and will be adding a section on technological advances, such as deep fakes. Does anyone have suggestions of book chapters or articles that provide an overview of current research and practice regarding deep fakes, AI, and so forth? This is a communication/media course and we will focus primarily on effects, though students with expertise may benefit from technical readings.

All suggestions are welcome.

Thank you in advance!
Seth
