The Paris Lodron University of Salzburg
seeks to appoint a
University Professor at the Department of Communication Studies with a focus on public spheres and inequality research
commencing on 1 October 2021.
The professorship covers the full spectrum of communication studies, including research and teaching. The research focus should lie in the area of public spheres and recent approaches to inequality research, especially with regard to the impacts of digitization and globalization. In accordance with the professorship’s profile, the successful candidate is expected to carry out intensive, internationally oriented research activities in the subject area of the professorship, taking into account the mission statement of the department. Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to participate in the teaching of BA and MA Communication Studies courses, especially theories of Communication Studies, as well as contribute to doctoral programmes.
General employment requirements are:
· A completed dissertation obtained in Austria, or an equivalent dissertation completed in another country;
· Relevant postdoctoral qualification (venia docendi) in journalism/media or communication studies or related relevant disciplines, or an equivalent academic qualification;
· Outstanding academic track record;
· Pedagogical and university teaching competences;
· Aptitude for managing a university institution;
· Proof of involvement with the international scientific community
· Willingness and ability to teach courses and hold examinations in English
Further expectations are:
· Participation in and building up of research and teaching partnerships at Paris Lodron University;
· Willingness to participate in university self-government;
· Experience in research management and in the acquisition of external funding;
· Social competences, focus on partnerships and interdisciplinarity;
· Willingness and qualification to take on leadership positions;
· Knowledge of spoken and written German or willingness to learn German within two years
This is a permanent full-time position in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities Act (Universitätsgesetz) 2002 and the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz) as well as the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff / Job Group A1 (Kollektivvertrag für die Arbeitnehmerinnen und Arbeitnehmer der Universitäten/Verwendungsgruppe A1). A monthly salary of € 5,245.60 gross (14 payments per year) is intended, which exceeds the minimum salary given in the Collective Bargaining Agreement for this salary group.
