Dear all

I write to let you know that, yesterday, in partnership with Plan International Australia and ChildFund Australia, the Young and Resilient Research Centre at Western Sydney University released a new report on children’s and families’ digital practices in three Pacific nations: Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands.

In terms of context, you may know that the Australian Government has funded a new submarine cable to bring high speed connectivity to the ‘Blue Continent’. As the region prepares for the cable to be switched on, there is a flurry of activity to make sure that Pacific nations are prepared to maximise the benefits and minimise the potential harms associated with rapidly increased uptake. This report contributes to those efforts. Indeed, the study – which deployed child-centred, creative and participatory, qualitative methods – was undertaken to inform Plan International’s and ChildFund’s development of a suite of online safety and digital literacy resources for implementation in the region, beginning in Solomon Islands.

You can find the full report here: https://www.westernsydney.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/1760221/PacificOnlineSafetyReport.pdf

Warm wishes

Amanda
