GAMING STUDIES, HUMAN AUGMENTICS AND AI

The Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position in Gaming Studies, Human Augmentics and AI. The position focuses on gaming, game studies, mobile interfaces, wearable technology/smartwear and interfaces of the future. Emphasis is placed on technologies that are prevalent now and on the ability to work with AR/VR interfaces that may dominate future media ecology. Parallel/complementary areas of emphasis include the politics of AI, algorithmic bias, augmented and virtual systems of representation, human machine communication (HMC), human augmentics, and sentient technologies/robotics.  

The candidate will have earned a doctorate in Communication or a related field, will demonstrate strong promise of scholarly achievement and teaching success (at the undergraduate and graduate levels) appropriate for appointment as Assistant Professor, will show good prospects for external research funding, and will demonstrate commitment to multidisciplinary scholarship.

The Department is the birthplace and current home of New Media and Society, the leading journal in the field, and the only department to host three leading journals: Mobile Media and Communication and the open access and free journal, Social Media & Society in addition to NMS.
