[Air-L] VIDEOS: The Future of Cultural Memory in Australia

GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) institutions play a critical role in supporting a nation's collective memory. The recent furore over funding for Australia's national archives has brought this to national attention. In this session, speakers from different institutions will reflect on:
- The role GLAM institutions in contributing to the nation in general and collective remembering in particular.
- The challenges of sourcing funding and engaging governments and publics in this process.
- The skills that professionals need to develop beyond traditional preservation and collection management.
Steven Fox is part of the Senior Executive Team leading the transformation of the National Archives of Australia from a repository of records to a contemporary, relevant and engaging archive in the digital age. He has worked extensively within public cultural institutions in Australia and New Zealand delivering improved outcomes for the effective management of Australasia’s cultural heritage. Craig Middleton is a curator, producer and currently Assistant Manager, Exhibitions Planning & Development at the National Museum of Australia. His is a widely published author and his book ‘Queering The Museum’, co-authored with Dr Nikki Sullivan, was released by Routledge in late 2019. Jacqui Uhlmann is Head of Collection at the National Film and Sound Archive. Most recently, she was Director of Visual Arts and Design in the Australian Government Office for the Arts, and returned to the NFSA in 2020. Jacqui has worked on major policy initiatives in the Australian Government arts portfolio, including reforms such as the 2013 National Cultural Policy. Video: https://youtu.be/4M3czSqTmiI
Alison Dellit is the Assistant Director-General of Collaboration at the National Library, in which role she oversees Trove, national edeposit and the Library's digitisation program. Since completing her librarianship qualification at UTS in 2006, she has built a career working with collaborative digital collections and online engagement, primarily at the National Library.
