I've also had good experiences with asking participants what gift cards
they would prefer and paying them after. I guess the limits are based on
your funders /University administrators. They will be able to advise on how
this process works and what is possible. I have been surprised by the
flexibility of mine following some other stressful experiences around
getting refunded for expenses.
