Lecturer/Instructor in Data, Media, and Society


The College of Information and Communications<https://sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/cic/> at the University of South Carolina (UofSC)<https://sc.edu/> invites applications for a full-time Lecturer/Instructor in Data, Media, and Society with a demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive learning and working environment. A suitable candidate must be able to teach courses online and in-person in programming, database, data analytics, and digital communications courses to undergraduate and graduate students. Job Responsibilities

The Candidate will be expected to teach four courses per semester (4 courses in Fall + 4 courses in Spring = 8 courses per year) at both undergraduate and graduate levels.  The classes are related to programming, database, and data analytics, and digital communications, such as Fundamentals of Data and Digital Communications and Information Visualization.


The start date for the position is August 2022. This is an annual 9-month appointment that may be renewed for two additional years, contingent upon satisfactory job performance and program needs. There will also be opportunities for additional summer teaching. The position is ideal for a candidate interested in a career in academia with teaching as a major focus. Required Qualifications

  *   Ability to teach both undergraduate- and Masters-level courses.

  *   The successful candidate must have the minimum of an earned Master’sDegree in information science/systems, informatics, data science, business, computer science, or communication, or a related field, along with a commitment to excellence in teaching both face-to-face and online.

  *   Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion



Preferred Qualifications

  *   Ability to teach in face-to-face, online, or hybrid delivery.

  *   The applicant shows potential for teaching effectiveness.  Typical indicators include past teaching/course evaluations, a documented history of developed courses/curricula, and/or pedagogical training.

  *   Ability to teach students how to derive valuable communication insights from large data sets

  *   Relevant teaching experience

  *   Relevant professional experience
