Dear Colleagues,

The BA Education at the University of East Anglia (UEA) is seeking a new External Examiner (EE). The term as external examiner will cover an exciting period for the School of Education and Lifelong Learning at UEA, including the launch of three new course variants in 2023-24 (BA Education, Learning, and Teaching; BA Education, Childhood, and Culture; BA Education, Special Educational Needs, and Inclusion). We are keen to work with colleagues to further develop these courses as they launch, and are looking for candidates with interest in a broad understanding of education. More detail about the programmes can be found here (https://www.uea.ac.uk/course/undergraduate/ba-education)

External examiners are in place to ensure that:
* the academic standards for each award are at the appropriate level and that student performance is judged against this;
* assessment processes measure student achievement against intended learning outcomes and are fair and fairly operated;
* standards at UEA are comparable with those of other higher education institutions.

In order to achieve these purposes external examiners are expected:
* to participate in assessment processes for University awards (taught programmes) as described below, including viva voce examinations and the deliberations of Boards of Examiners considering academic performance, including reassessment and the outcome of academic appeals;
* to arbitrate or adjudicate on problem cases;
* to contribute to the evaluation and consideration of the impact of extenuating circumstances upon students' performance;
* to evaluate assessment policies and procedures, including those with regard to professional practice, where relevant;
* to comment and give advice on the design of courses, on module content, balance and structure, on the appropriateness of learning outcomes, on standards of achievement and on professional practice placements, where relevant

Applicants should have experience of teaching and assessing in higher education at BA level, and expertise in Education as an academic subject, broadly defined. All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University's criteria for appointment including the appropriate right to work checks. The appointment will be effective as soon as possible for a period of four years.

Please send your expressions of interest, together with a full CV, to Dr Harry Dyer (harry.t.dyer at uea.ac.uk<mailto:harry.t.dyer at uea.ac.uk>) and Dr Elizabeth Scholefield (e.scholefield at uea.ac.uk<mailto:e.scholefield at uea.ac.uk>).

Thank you in advance for your consideration,

Best wishes,

Harry
