Dear all,

The Cultural Studies in Education research group at the University of East Anglia will be hosting a free online seminar on Monday 24th January 2022, at 12:00 PM (GMT). The session will be led by Dr Kay Sidebottom from the Carnegie School of Education, Leeds Beckett University, and will be titled Disruptive Pedagogies: Radical Education for Posthuman Times. A short abstract for the session is provided below:

As educators face the ongoing and increasing challenges of widening inequalities, environmental degradation, technological innovation and zoonotic pandemics, it is timely to re-evaluate the role of pedagogy in accelerating our capacity to both adapt and forge a new way forward. The posthuman and new materialist turn in education offers exciting potential for a shift from learning-as-cognition to a focus on connections between humans and non- human others; it presents an opportunity for the re-emergence of the embodied subject; and provides space to celebrate difference for itself, beyond the limiting discourse of diversity and inclusion. Despite the emergence of posthuman thinking in educational philosophy however, there are few practical examples of how these ideas can be enacted in initial teacher training or classroom situations. This seminar aims to share practical examples of how educators of all kinds can re-imagine learning in precarious times.
