Dear AoIR members,

*Invitation - Global Manifesto for a Fairer Platform Work*

In anticipation of the International Labour Organisation's Meeting of
Experts on Decent Work in the Platform Economy
<https://www.ilo.org/travail/eventsandmeetings/WCMS_852196/lang--en/index.htm>
–
being held in Geneva from 10 to 14 October – a 'Manifesto for Fairer
Platform Work' to protect and ensure the rights of platform workers across
the world will be launched. The document was developed by leading
researchers from different countries and institutions involved in analysing
the platform economy and its consequences on workers.

Platform work is increasingly becoming a fundamental source of employment
and income for workers worldwide. But too often, such work is precarious –
with low standards or lack of rights and protection regarding payment,
conditions, contracts, management and representation. The 'Manifesto for
Fairer Platform Work' aims to urge the ILO to adopt a convention on
platform work that caters to the specific and urgent needs of platform
workers globally.

The Manifesto argues that fair conditions for platform workers should be put
in place to address this lack of rights and protection. It outlines the
challenges posed by these new labor relations in crucial aspects, such as
misclassification, low pay, health and safety risks, discrimination, non
transparent algorithmic management, and lack of representation and
collective bargaining.

We invite researchers in the field of platform work and related topics to
read and sign the Manifesto. The document can be accessed and signed at
fair.work/manifesto. Please share this invitation with other researchers in
your network.

The manifesto will be launched in a virtual event
<https://wzb-eu.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_uN50v7bYTOG6VUBVpA2eGQ> on
Friday, 7 October at 15.00 BST. We would also like to invite you to attend
the event. And feel free to share this invitation with other people you
believe could be interested in this discussion.

Kind regards,
