Dear AoIR colleagues,

If you have students who are considering applying to PhD programs, please
forward them this information.

Dr. Keith Hampton and Dr. Johannes Bauer are seeking applicants for
multiple fully-funded positions as research associates in the Information
and Media PhD program in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at
Michigan State University. Applications are due December 1, 2022 to begin
in the 2023-24 academic year. Qualified applicants will receive tuition,
stipend and benefits for four years and will be affiliated with the Quello
Center <https://quello.msu.edu/>. Students will collaborate as part of a
team of researchers pursuing research questions that address taken for
granted assumptions about the implications of new media, information
policy, and Internet regulation. Current and emerging research addresses
digital equity and inclusion, social and psychological well-being, platform
regulation, challenges of disinformation, and information ethics.
Applicants with a methodological background in survey research,
quantitative methods, and computational research approaches are especially
welcome. The Information and Media PhD program is multidisciplinary in
nature and is welcoming to students with diverse training in areas such as
economics, sociology, political science, information studies,
communication, policy, and related fields. Applicants should explain the
relevance of their background and interests for their interest in studying
issues related to technology and society.
