***apologies for cross-posting***

Dear list members,

We'd like to share with you a call for papers for a research topic we are co-editing in the journal "Frontiers in Human Dynamics":
The impact of digital technology on human-wildlife relationships
https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/49724/the-impact-of-digital-technology-on-the-relationships-between-people-and-wildlife

The current deadline can be found on the website.

Digital technology (DT) is having an increasing impact on human-wildlife interactions. There are now numerous smartphone applications dedicated to wildlife identification, people share wildlife-related information on social media, citizen science projects use DT to support data collection, and it is now actively used in conservation efforts. This Research Topic aims to bring together a collection of papers that explore the impact of digital technology on the relationship between people and all forms of wildlife, for better or worse, in different contexts, and to identify the many challenges that remain and the efforts being made to address them.

We are looking for full research papers, shorter position and perspective pieces, and even more creative or experimental contributions that seek to address and explore different aspects of the role of DT in human-wildlife interaction (HWI) and how it can impact, including

- Wildlife-related (citizen) science and approaches to verifying and validating data received from citizen science programmes;

- The impact of DT design on wildlife-related data collection and related interventions

- The use of social media in relation to wildlife and related data collection;

- The role of DT in promoting information about wildlife in rural and urban areas;

- The public use of wildlife-related applications and their impact;

- The use of DT by wildlife professionals and organisations to promote public engagement;

- DT and wildlife activism;

- How DT enables wildlife conservation, stewardship or care, and how it supports wildlife welfare and well-being;

- The role played by DT in ameliorating HWC;

- DT and the development of wildlife-related public policy;

- The impact DT has had on human relationships to other wildlife.

Many thanks and best wishes,
