Doctoral student in Theory of science in the project: "In the Eye of the Storm. Climate adaptation in times of increasing polarization and misinformation”

The doctoral student will conduct research in the project: "In the eye of the storm. Climate adaptation in times of increasing polarization and misinformation”. The overall aim is to research how actors mobilize science and climate obstructing resources to influence the work to reduce climate-related risks and harmful effects at municipal and regional level. A case study relevant to the project can examine ongoing conflicts around climate adaptation plans, the calculation of municipal carbon budgets, and/or the introduction of climate adaptation measures, where an obstructive measurements are invoked by some actor. The doctoral student has a great responsibility to independently formulate research questions, choose theories and methods, collect empirical material and analyze the results. The focus of the thesis work will be determined in consultation between the doctoral student and they supervisor. The dissertation project is intended to result in a case study that is both empirically grounded and theoretically informed.

We are looking for a candidate with a background in theory of science, sociology, political science, anthropology, history, history of ideas, or other social science. Great emphasis will be placed on previous experience in writing about and analyzing issues related to the project's themes: Climate change, science-denying discourses, anti-environmental movements, municipal and regional decision-making. Previous experience in applying methods relevant to the project is meritorious, as is an interest on the part of the candidate in the challanges brought up to date by the project. The ambition to engage in and learn from the research conducted at the three research environments behind the project is welcomed. Mastering Swedish or another Scandinavian language is necessary. Very good knowledge of English, both oral and written, is necessary.
