Submissions are welcome in the following tracks:

Interactive Media: Art and Design
Track chair Dr Sam Brooker (Richmond American University London, UK)

This track is dedicated to papers that explore creative expression through digital technology. Submissions may showcase new approaches to - or applications of - interactive media technology for creative expression, or evaluate existing work from a new perspective. Hybrid presentations that mix theory and practice are welcome, though work should be rooted in hypertext as method or approach.
Topics include but not limited to:
* Demonstrations: Live exhibition or exploration of a new or existing creative work.
* Critical analysis: Reflection on or discussion of pre-existing works or theoretical approaches.
* Traversals: Demonstrations performed on historically appropriate platforms, with participation and commentary by the authors of the works.
* Interdisciplinary creative work: Evaluation or demonstration of creative work that crosses disciplinary boundaries

Authoring, Reading, Publishing
Track chair Dr Leah Henrickson (University of Leeds, UK)

This track is dedicated to exploring how hypertext has transformed authoring, reading, and publishing by disrupting, subverting, or complementing book and media culture and practice. Submissions may focus on specific case studies or theories of new emerging practices, rhetorical analyses, or methodological reflections that take inspiration from fields such as book history, digital humanities and/or media studies.
Topics include, but not limited to:
* Authorship: Contextualising the production of hypertexts.
* Book history: Historically-informed frameworks, theories, and concepts for understanding hypertextual production, dissemination, and reception.
* Digital scholarly editions and adaptations: Hypertextual representations and reconceptualisations of extant texts.
* Digital storytelling and electronic literature: How hypertexts are used to communicate ideas and facilitate alternative textual experiences.
* Reading practices and reader response: How hypertexts are read (or not read) and interpreted.
* Rhetorics and poetics: How hypertexts are framed in popular and scholarly discourse, as well as theoretical considerations on forms of expression supported by hypertextual formats.
* Text, paratext, and multimodality: Manifestations and effects of digital forms of intra- and intertextual connectivity.,

Workflows and Infrastructures
Track chair Dr Davide Picca (Universit? de Lausanne, CH)

This track is dedicated to hypertext systems and their professional applications to the GLAM field in order to facilitate access to cultural knowledge. The main purpose is to illustrate through the different contributions to the track, how STEM disciplines can help and support the preservation and dissemination of tangible and intangible cultural resources. This track welcomes contributions that present real-world applications of hypertext systems, with a focus on the benefits, challenges, and gaps that emerge from daily practice in fields of study such as (but not limited to) Digital Museology, Intangible Cultural Heritage applications and NLP approaches to cultural resources.
Topics include, but not limited to:
* Semantic knowledge: How formal ontologies and formal modelling can contribute to organise cultural knowledge

Social and Intelligent Media
Track chair Dr Gr?goire Burel (Knowledge Media Institute, UK)

The social and intelligent media track is dedicated to the understanding and modelling of sociotechnical systems and their role in shaping communication and information access, both virtually and offline. Submissions should consider any online systems that include socially and AI-mediated information such as social networks, recommender systems, online publication tools and discussion platforms. As the focus of this year conference is "Humanity within", authors are encouraged to submit interdisciplinary articles centred around the impact of social media and AI on how hyperlinked content is accessed and consumed and its impact on Humanity. This track welcomes submissions that further the understanding of the technical inworkings of digital communities and their societal impact, as well as novel methods and algorithms that shape online communication, content creation and socially-mediated information access.
Topics include, but not limited to:
* Privacy and Anonymity in Social Media - The way social media protect and/or blur the lines between the real and virtual world.
* Inclusiveness of Social Media - The role of social media in including minorities, disabilities and minoritised communities.
* Diversity and Representativeness of Social Media - The way social media favour (or not) content diversity and its representativeness as well as the involvement of individuals (e.g., echo chambers, content moderation).

HICSS CfP: Game Scholars and Hawaii in January!

Games & Gaming (Social and Digital Media track)
57th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS)
January 3-6, 2024, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort

For the eighth straight year, the Games & Gaming minitrack at HICSS is seeking papers that examine the social aspects of digital gaming. We feature work related to digital games and sociality that covers a variety of methods: qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods papers are welcome, ranging from interviews to big data analyses, detailed observations of games and associated social or streaming networks, as well as theoretical papers looking at digital gaming practices in general. Types of games studied may include mobile, social, free to play, AAA, MMOs, PC, console, multiplayer, and indie games. As part of the Digital and Social Media track, papers must contain a social dimension, examining, for example, sociability, social practices, communities (in-game, out-game, across multiple spaces or time), use of social affordances, or some other social dimension. Student authors are welcome! See here for HICSS author instructions and guidelines: https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fhicss.hawaii.edu%2Fauthors%2F&data=05%7C01%7Ckaryn.hollis%40villanova.edu%7C72ae329d27294056319e08db32231c49%7C765a8de5cf9444f09cafae5bf8cfa366%7C0%7C0%7C638158898841221592%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=cMAVrTG6MiBVUFKvsfXG0g3bEKZh65FF2pwFIF3kMZs%3D&reserved=0.

Glossary of Decentralised technosocial systems - Call for entries

The glossary of decentralised technosocial systems launched in 2021
aimed to build a shared working vocabulary regarding specific aspects of
decentralised techno-social systems among researchers in an
interdisciplinary fashion. Indeed, a comprehensive understanding of the
technical, economic, and political aspects of these types of
technologies transcends traditional boundaries of scientific fields and
demands an interdisciplinary approach that seeks to better conceptualise
and critically evaluate specific mechanisms or processes inherent to
distributed technologies.

The objective of this new Call for contributions is to enable
researchers and practitioners to engage with techno-social developments,
relevant academic debates, and a normative appraisal of their ability
and efficiency to resist the prevalent dynamics of centralisation and
erosion of autonomy. In turn, the concept of decentralisation in the
Glossary is understood to include the developments within the
infrastructure and systems of information sharing and distribution of
various types of content that seek to challenge and/or provide
alternatives to the current organizational structures through
distributed technologies.

Additionally, the glossary aims to consolidate the current list of terms
in a way that allows for broad engagement across academic communities to
inform parallel research in different fields by broadening current
theoretical frameworks through analysis of the processes, structures and
societal outcomes of decentralisation.

Full call, followed by submission guidelines and review process:

The Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy (JITP) seeks scholarly
(especially creative and experimental) work that contributes to or is
informed by the liberatory pedagogical legacy of bell hooks. Paying special
attention to texts like Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice
of Freedom (1994) and Teaching Community: A Pedagogy of Hope (2003), this
special themed issue explores how collaborative, community-centered, and/or
multimodal engagements with technology?as informed by hooks?s work?can
transform frameworks and outcomes for instruction, as well open up new
shared spaces for learning.

Drawing on hooks?s radical, inclusive, disruptive, and recuperative
legacy?and the scholars informed by it?this issue will highlight the use of
digital technology in teaching, educational organizing, and anti-oppressive
praxes within, alongside, and beyond academia. We ask: What kinds of
embodied and communal interactions are enabled by teaching with technology?
How can we reconcile the inherent contradictions in a learning community
where technology functions at once as a tool for social justice and for
surveillance capitalism?

We are especially interested in the intersection of technologies and

   -

   anti-colonial, anti-classist, anti-capitalist, anti-patriarchal
   frameworks
   -

Black liberatory, Black feminist, and socially just forms of teaching,
   learning, and community organizing.

Besides scholarly papers, the submissions can consist of audio or visual
presentations; interviews, dialogues, or conversations; and creative,
artistic, experimental, and multimodal engagements with hooks?s work.

A consideration of digital tools and technology in the context of hooks?s
pedagogical scholarship might address:

   -

   engagements with open technology
   -

radical collaboration and/or creativity in the classroom and beyond
   -

systemic critiques of digital tools in teaching and learning
   -

the labor and care considerations of academic technology projects
   -

critical and community-centered teaching and learning frameworks
   -

the ethics and politics of publishing student and/or community-centered
   work
   -

social justice pedagogies involving radical reimaginations of
   pedagogical structures and communities
   -

academic mentorship, advisement, and committee work
   -

   theorizing praxis through lived experience
   -

technological infrastructures and the promise of radical co-liberation

Brief Guidelines for Submissions

Research-based submissions should include discussions of approach, method,
and analysis. When possible, research data should be made publicly
available and accessible via the Web and/or other digital mechanisms, a
process that JITP can and will support as necessary. Successes and
interesting failures are equally welcome. Submissions that focus on
pedagogy should balance theoretical frameworks with practical
considerations of how new technologies play out in both formal and informal
educational settings. Discipline-specific submissions should be written for
non-specialists.

For further information on style and formatting, accessibility

Submission and Review Process

All work appearing in the Issues section of JITP is reviewed by the issue
editors and independently by two scholars in the field, who provide
formative feedback to the author(s) during the review process. We practice
signed, as opposed to anonymous or so-called ?blind,? peer review. We
intend that the journal itself?both in our process and in our digital
product?serves as an opportunity to reveal, reflect on, and revise academic
publication and classroom practices.

As a courtesy to our reviewers, we will not consider simultaneous
submissions, but we will do our best to reply to you within three months of
the submission deadline. The expected length for finished manuscripts is
under 5,000 words or an equivalent length or scope for timed or other forms
of media (e.g. roughly 20?25 minutes of dialogue, 45 minutes of a spoken
presentation, etc.). Both text-based and multimedia should be prepared to
undergo review for their relationship to scholarly and related
conversations, as well as be amenable to revision. All work should be
original and previously unpublished. Essays or presentations posted on a
personal blog may be accepted, provided they are substantially revised;
please contact us with questions at admin at jitpedagogy.org.

Best,

Nikki
