[Air-L] ISOC LIVE- One year out

Yes, it was March 31, 2024 that the Internet Society terminated my
contract, that funded ISOC.LIVE, on the basis that it was surplus to
requirements.

This quote struck me this week, coming from someone here is New York,whose
job is to interview DOGE'd federal employees, whom the state is actively
recruiting

* In 1967, a young man asked the writer and monk Thomas Merton how to act
in the face of systemic injustice. This was his unconventional reply:*

*"Do not depend on the hope of results. You may have to face the fact that
your work will be apparently worthless and even achieve no result at all,
if not perhaps results opposite to what you expect. As you get used to this
idea, you start more and more to concentrate not on the results, but on the
value, the rightness, the truth of the work itself. You gradually struggle
less and less for an idea and more and more for specific people. In the
end, it is the reality of personal relationship that saves everything."*

And it is true, it is not  ISOC's mission as much as its community that
drives this livestream work. The breadth of that community, dedicated to a
common purpose of enabling interpersonal communication, is what attracted
me to ISOC in the first place, and continues to inspire...

As does one person in particular, Vint Cerf,
died-in-the-wool-3-piece-suit  people-centric that he is, Big thanks to
Vint for being the only ISOC LIVE sponsor thus far, ,funding 5 out of the
12 months. The other 7 months have been maintained out of my rapidly
diminishing savings. Not a sustainable option. I still do hold out hope
that one day I may change that 'unfunded' tag to "Funded by the ISOC
Foundation'. Never say die.
