You’re warmly invited to WhatsApp in the World: Encrypted Messaging and Extreme Speech, a timely forum exploring how WhatsApp mediates extreme speech and disinformation globally—and what this reveals about the promise and contradictions of encryption.



Join Prof. Sahana Udupa (BKC Fellow, LMU professor) presents insights from her forthcoming edited volume in conversation with Gabriella Coleman (Faculty Associate, Harvard University). Together, they’ll unpack the concept of “lived encryptions” and examine how encrypted platforms shape public discourse, privacy, and politics in complex ways.
