Dear Colleagues

We are pleased to invite contributions to an edited volume titled
“Gotta Study 'Em All: 30 Years of Pokémon,” scheduled (tentatively) for
publication with Bloomsbury Academic in 2026 - the 30th anniversary of the
Pokémon franchise. The project has already received initial positive
feedback from the commissioning editors at Bloomsbury.

This volume seeks to explore the Pokémon franchise as a complex and
enduring global media phenomenon. We welcome submissions from scholars in
internet research, media and cultural studies, game studies, education,
psychology, and related fields. Contributions may address, but are not
limited to, the following themes:
Fan cultures and participatory practices
Augmented reality and Pokémon GO
Education, play, and cognitive engagement
Nostalgia, transmedia storytelling, and consumer loyalty
Worldbuilding, aesthetics, and global adaptations
Social, intergenerational, or therapeutic uses of Pokémon
Comparative media franchise analysis

We are currently accepting extended abstracts (800-1200 words, excluding
references) for chapter proposals.

Deadline for submission: June 30, 2025
Please send submissions (including abstract, proposed title, and short bio)
