[Air-L] HELP NEEDED - Please sign our petition to save jobs at Newcastle University

Greetings friends,

I hope you’re all as well as you can be!!

I just wanted to take the opportunity to share this petition written by colleagues at Newcasle university. For anyone that doesn’t know, we’re facing a very scary redundancy crisis here, with out of control senior management (earning £millions) making huge cuts to teaching and support staff at the university while increasing spend on large capital projects (£275million construction just agreed for a building we don’t even need!!)


The university is in a strong cash position and could clear all debts and still be cash positive. They are making redundancies because of a *shortfall* against estimated income (NOTE – not a deficit… They aren’t losing money… just making less than they planned). To fill this ‘gap’ they’re coming for our jobs.

Here in the UK, we’re one of the first dominoes that management is trying to topple. If they win making these redundancies, other universities WILL be affected.

It seems wild to me that our senr. Management care more about their broader perception from things like this than the health of their institutions, the morale of their staff, or the quality of education for their students, but this is the position we find ourselves in, and so your help is really REALLY valuable to us right now.
