Hello AOIR!
I am really excited to say that my book, Thresholds of Digital Gameplay, is coming out December 16th (next month!)
The book is about the many transitions and transactions players negotiate with to participate in digital gameplay. It’s a book about the digitalization or software-ization of gameplay (it is part of MIT’s Software Studies series), but mostly its about how many of the interactions and interfaces that surround digital gameplay influence or direct games, gameplay, and game design. I talk about fun stuff like character configuration, controllers, micro transactions, and even access controls (ooooo)! I talk about how these administrative attachment have fundamentally altered aspects of the phenomenon of gaming as a recreation.
The book is meant to be useful for scholars, designers, and even players, and ends with an attempt discuss how the analysis might augment respective toolkits.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
I am also sending this because, while I generally suggest ordering from smaller book mongers, Some Amazons are currently accepting paperback pre-orders at a significantly reduced price (e.g., Amazon UK<https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thresholds-Digital-Gameplay-Software-Studies/dp/0262553589/ref=sr_1_1?crid=33ZFM1PZ4Z025&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.3oft7_TvExHWe2LMTk3dVg.R1xWXvUg5QqNLO5GsaqTbj_av3WzOtETP_2aBSYbnNU&dib_tag=se&keywords=thresholds+of+digital+gameplay&qid=1762292265&sprefix=thresholds+of+d%2Caps%2C184&sr=8-1>).
Thank you all for your attention and support!
