Managing and utilizing the rapidly expanding volume of scholarly
publications has become increasingly complex, as traditional digital
systems often fall short in providing comprehensive insights into
scientific texts. Recent advances in Generative Artificial Intelligence
(GAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) enable automated analysis,
classification, and summarization of scientific literature, revealing
patterns and knowledge that were previously difficult to access. This
workshop brings together experts in computational linguistics, machine
learning, text mining, information retrieval, digital libraries, and
scientometrics to address these challenges and explore innovative
solutions. We invite submissions presenting novel approaches, datasets, or
tools for knowledge discovery in scholarly publications, as well as studies
focusing on reproducibility, research integrity, inclusivity, and the
societal impact of scholarly communication. The goal is to foster
collaboration and advance methods that enhance the accessibility,
understanding, and application of scientific knowledge. We therefore
propose BESIDES 2025: Beyond Search Engines – Intelligent Knowledge
Discovery from Scholarly Publications, a workshop dedicated to exploring
new frontiers in information retrieval and bibliometrics. The workshop is
planned to be held on 15-19 December 2025 at JCDL 2025 (Virtual Event).

In this workshop, we aim to bring together a multidisciplinary, diverse
team of researchers from information retrieval, NLP, and LLM. We welcome
research contributions related to the following (but not limited to) topics:

   - Large Language Models (LLMs) for categorizing scholarly publications
   - Representation learning and language modeling
   - Information extraction and NER
   - Document understanding
   - Summarization and generation
   - Use of Knowledge Graph in organizing scholarly database
   - Question-answering
   - Discourse modeling/argumentation mining
   - Network analysis
   - Bibliometrics, scientometrics, and altmetrics
   - Reproducibility and research integrity, including new challenges posed
   by generative AI
   - Peer review tools, principles, and technology
   - Metadata and indexing
   - Inclusion of datasets and computational resources
   - Research infrastructures and digital libraries
   - Increasing the representation in scholarly work of disadvantaged
   populations
   - LLM-based interfaces to consume/produce scholarly documents
   - Impact of scholarly communication on popular discourse
   - Use of scholarly publication in spreading false information
