Dear Internet and digital Research community,
After two symposiums on artificial intelligence, Dutch Surveillance Studies is organizing a third symposium: ‘Harmful Policing’. Although police violence is often viewed as a physical force, the increased digitization of policing produces new forms of harm. By focusing on the relationships between physical and digital policing practices, this symposium elucidates the interplay between technology, policing and harm.
The symposium takes place November 10th 2026 at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Scholars, activists, experts by experience and practitioners are welcome to apply! Abstract applications will close on 01-06-2026. The symposium is also a prelude to an international exhibition on building public truths and fatal police violence in het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam, opening in March 2027.

Further information and instructions regarding application can be found in the attached PDF or on our website.<https://dutchsurveillancestudies.org/2026/03/13/call-for-papers-symposium-harmful-policing/>

Warm regards,
