Join us on Tuesday 17th February at 2-3pm (UK time) for the next Research Process Seminar. Hosted by the Media School at Bournemouth University — and open to all.
*Ethnography of Algorithms*
Based on the research carried out for her new book “Just for You” and ethnographies inside Danish news organisations (Nordicom, Spring 2026) Professor Møller Hartley will reflect on the challenges of studying the technical infrastructures and algorithms when dispersed across sites, clouds, servers and people, even departments inside the news organization. In the talk she will further discuss how we can study how these technologies and infrastructures like LLMs or machine learning models transform the practices and values of journalism, even when ‘its just code’ and even if no journalists are involved in the building/design of the algorithms.
*About the speaker*
