Sourcing Manager and Sr. Analyst Positions at Disney - Please Forward
Sorry if this is a duplicate - I'm targeting a broad range of alumni
hoping someone out there can come through...
There are three openings on the New Media & Technology Team within
Strategic Sourcing & Procurement at The Walt Disney Company. One is
for a Manager, based either in Bristol, CT or Burbank, CA and the
other two are for Analysts/Senior Analysts based in Burbank, CA. I'm
the Director of Sourcing for New Media & Technology, whose team
supports supplier management and negotiations with the companies that
provide goods and services ranging from traditional telecom and
technology purchases to post production services, digital cinema
services, set lighting, and more to Disney business units worldwide.
The Manager position is typically an MBA-level job, whereas the
analyst roles may or may not be, depending on the candidate. Previous
experience in sourcing, purchasing, or supply chain functions, as well
as in technology, telecom, and/or media, is preferred but not
required. We know what a unique role this team plays within Disney, so
we know finding the exact skill set desired will be a challenge.
Successful candidates will have a wide range of skills - people who
speak both Excel and Powerpoint, and who are as comfortable in front
of execs supporting projects as they are behind a desk crunching
numbers. To be candid - these jobs are not easy - but people on the
team get great visibility and have numerous opportunities to be
successful within Disney (My predecessor is now a VP at the Studio,
and as for the two current analysts, one is staying on the team but
moving to NYC, the other is tranistioning to a similar role in
Corporate Alliances after three years within Strategic Sourcing &
Procurement).

easy positions to fill and we want to get people in as quickly as we
can so we can have an easier transition from the current team. If you

ps - In case people are concerned about the recent layoffs mentioned
in the news, I'll just say that the layoffs were confined to the
studio segment and did not extend to corporate, where Strategic
Sourcing is.
JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Manager, Sourcing - New Media & Technology, Strategic Sourcing &
Procurement, The Walt Disney Company
The Manager of Sourcing, New Media and Technology will be part of a
team whose mission is to successfully execute strategic sourcing
engagements and strategic planning activities in the converging areas
of Media Production and traditional Information Technology. The
Manager will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams in the
successful execution of strategic sourcing initiatives from start to
completion. Media Production is a major spend category for the Company
that includes all external spend in the creation, production, post
production and distribution of content. This category increasingly
leverages emerging technologies as the process of media distribution
continues migrating toward digital formats. This position is also
responsible for sourcing traditional and industry-specific technology
and telecom goods and services used in the IT infrastructure and
systems within our corporate center and our business units.
This position will be interfacing with multiple levels of leadership
and contributors across groups from all areas of the Company including
the studio, cable, television, radio, online and wireless businesses.
Key Responsibilities:
* Hunting for potential near-term opportunities to create value (e.g.,
cost reduction, productivity improvement, margin enhancement, etc.)
for the Company's internal and external stakeholders
* Following structured project management methods and principles to
execute complex strategic souring initiatives.
* Directly performing and leading Analysts in the development of
rigorous financial and total cost of ownership models
* Performing supply market analysis and developing sourcing strategies
based on proven methods (e.g., Porter's 5 forces).
* Preparing and executing structured negotiations following the
Sourcing & Procurement '7 Element' methodology
* Developing and delivering executive-level presentations on a regular
basis

Analyst/Senior Sourcing Analyst - New Media & Technology, Strategic
Sourcing & Procurement, The Walt Disney Company
The Sourcing Analyst will be a part of the New Media & Technology team
that is accountable for developing and implementing analytical reports
and analysis to support negotiations with suppliers providing goods
and services worldwide, such as digital content preparation and
distribution ( e.g., Digital Cinema), post production services for
film and television, satellite bandwidth, video teleconferencing,
servers and storage, software packages, wireless communications, and
many others.
This position will support specific sourcing initiatives and supplier
negotiations to help the New Media & Technology Sourcing team achieve
goals regarding strategic sourcing, supply chain, process and
infrastructure improvements in support of critical corporate goals of
creating compelling content, leveraging technology, and expanding
globally. This position requires excellent internal customer service
abilities as the Sourcing Analyst will be required to interface both
within and outside of the Sourcing & Procurement Organization at all
levels of management within the Company, including executives in Film,
Television, New Media, and Information Technology, among others.
The Sourcing Analyst will be accountable for assisting and analyzing
sourcing initiatives that consider supply chain processes and
infrastructure improvements to drive reductions in Total Cost of
Ownership (TCO) without compromising business strategy and performance
for various domestic and international Business Units within all
segments of The Walt Disney Company, including Studio Entertainment,
Media Networks, Parks & Resorts, Consumer Products, and Corporate.
This individual will support Sourcing & Procurement in data analysis,
model building, process analysis communication and supplier/contract
management.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and apply standardized and rigorous approach to financial
analysis related to procurement such as:
o Financial modeling for bid analysis
o Cost saving methodology
o Lease vs. buy model
o Total cost of ownership model development
* Provide analytical support for sourcing activities by performing:
o Spend analysis

o Process analysis
* Develop and implement tools to allow rigorous cost and market

* Develop, track, and report savings, spending compliance and
variances, communicate findings with procurement heads, finance and LOB's
* Perform user and supplier compliance audits as appropriate
* Develop, forecast and track AOP
* Coordinate with Sourcing & Procurement on process improvement
initiatives
* Demonstrate exemplary integrity and ethics in all instances
Core Skills:
* Ability to analyze complex processes and to lead workgroups to help
resolve problem areas
* Ability to work with key executives at the Corporate and Business
Unit Levels
* Understanding of AOP/capital budget forecasting processes
* Ability to clearly communicate sophisticated financial concepts to a
broad spectrum of internal users

Desired Qualifications:
